What are Linked Accounts?
Linked Accounts let you connect and verify your own external bank accounts (like your business bank account) within our system. This way, when you send money from your linked external account to your embedded finance account, it’s treated as a “self-to-self” transfer — meaning money moving between your own accounts.
Similarly, when you withdraw money back to your linked external account, it’s considered a “self-to-self” withdrawal.
Why does this matter?
Because these “self-to-self” transfers involve only your own accounts, they are excluded from APP Fraud claims. This helps keep your transactions safer and lowers the risk of fraud affecting your payments.
If you’re using a UK Cards-Focused programme, Linked Accounts are required to make sure your payments are protected from risks related to third-party wire transfers.
For UK programmes that combine Cards and Wire Transfers, Linked Accounts are optional but can be used to help reduce fraud risk by clearly separating your own transfers from payments involving other parties.
Quick summary for UK customers:
Both individual (consumer) and business (corporate) customers can use Linked Accounts.
Linked Accounts are mandatory on UK Cards-Focused programmes.
Linked Accounts are optional on UK programmes with both Cards and Wire Transfers.
Linked Accounts are not yet available for EU/EUR/SEPA programmes.
Important:
If you’re an existing customer on a UK Cards-Focused programme, starting from October 2024 you will need to add and verify at least one Linked Account to keep funding your payments and withdrawing any surplus funds.
